An intensive study of historical performance practice led to Christoph Mayer's participation in most of the renowned German baroque orchestras, not least in the ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln, where he performed chamber music for several years in numerous concerts and on many recordings, some of which were award-winning.

Christoph Mayer received his violin training at the conservatories in Munich and Cologne, as well as with Sergey Fatkulin.
His high reputation as a chamber musician is evidenced by performances at international music festivals such as the Styriarte Graz, the Schwetzingen Festival and Klang & Raum Irsee as well as in important concert halls such as London’s Wigmore Hall, the Tonhalle Zurich, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Lincoln Center and “The Frick Collection” New York or the Berlin Philharmonic.
In addition to numerous radio recordings and CD recordings in larger ensembles, Mayer has participated in many chamber music recordings, including productions with Musica Antiqua Köln, Schuppanzigh Quartet, SCALA Köln, Musica ad Rhenum and Ensemble 1700.
Christoph Mayer is a sought-after lecturer for historical performance practice at master classes and workshops. He has taught at the International Handel Academy in Karlsruhe and coached at the Zurich Opera. In 2006 he was appointed honorary professor for his master class and seminars at the State Music Academy “Mikhail Glinka”.
He is currently working on his “Instructions for Baroque Bowing Technique”, in which he teaches a bowing technique that is adequate from today’s point of view for the high demands of Baroque music on phrasing, articulation and musical gestures.
