3rd SACD for Sweelinck Edition with Léon Berben just recorded

11/05/2010

Aeolus has just pursued the Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck-Edition with the dutch harpsichordist and organist Léon Berben.

Aeolus producer Christoph M. Frommen is just back from recordings of the 3rd SACD in Oosthuizen in the north of Amsterdam (the first two SACDs were recorded in Tangermünde). There is an organ in the Grote Kerk of Oosthuizen which has pipework from around 1500! Léon Berben: "Imagine this organ having three manuals and the quadruple number of stops, and you have Sweelinck's organ!" This little gem has only 7 stops... but it sounds fantastic. In Japan an exact copy exists of this organ. Enjoy some of these pictures!

Recording the organ with 9 DPA 4006 in stereo and surround... the church has nice acoustic!
