Peter Holtslag is one of the leading artists of our time on his instruments. Born in Amsterdam in 1957, Peter Holtslag studied recorder with Kees Boeke ( Frans Brüggen being his great inspiration ) at the Conservatorium of his native town. He has toured worldwide as a recorder player and as a transverse flute player.

A distinguished soloist and chamber musician, he shared the concert platform and toured with musicians and ensembles such as Gustav Leonhardt, William Christie, Roy Goodman, The English Concert, The Orchestra of the 18th Century, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, La Fontegara Amsterdam, The Parley of Instruments, &c.

His numerous CD recordings on most major labels ( DGG/Archiv, Hyperion, Chandos, Harmonia Mundi, CPO &c. ) have won international acclaim.

From 1984-88, he taught at the Guildhall School of Music in London and in 1988 he was appointed professor to both the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. At present, he is also guest professor at the Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie and teaches at international master classes and summer courses.

Unlike many other performers striving for “authentic” renderings, Peter Holtslag prefers to see early music in the light of its rhetorical traditions rather than let it follow a stolid motoric course.
