Introduction:

For his complete recording of the two Masses composed by François Couperin, Serge Schoonbroodt chose a 17th century baroque organ with a stoplist which is quite similar to the one of the organ of Saint-Gervais during Couperin's lifetime.

The belgian artist has already recorded four other CDs for AEOLUS, J.P.Sweelinck, J.C.F.Fischer, and the complete organ works of G.Jullien (2 CDs) all four recordings having earned excellent reviews (Diapason, Répertoire, Classica, Goldberg).

He has studied the influences of baroque dance styles on the organ music of the french baroque composers with the french choregraphers Francine Lancelot and Christine Bayle. This results in very lively performances of this music, setting them apart from most of the other existing versions.

The instruments was built by Jean Eustache in 1692 and was restored on 1999, a typical big 4 manual french baroque organ with period temperament.
